A whole new world of hurt! He was a monster, impossible to control, too dangerous to ignore. So Earth’s mightiest heroes exiled him into outer space. But now THE INCREDIBLE HULK crash-lands on the distant planet SAKAAR, ruled by the tyrannical RED KING. Sold into slavery, the Hulk becomes the planet’s mightiest gladiator—but his new masters get more than they bargained for when he forges a bond of brotherhood with his fellow fighters: crafty insectoid Miek, ruthless rock-man Korg, ex-shadow pirest Hiroim, and the noble-born rebel Elloe. Unlike Earth, the desperate people of Sakaar believe a monster is just what they need. But will the Hulk be the one to save their world…or destroy it?

An Awsome story of the big green guy
This was a great story of the Hulk and how he reacted to being cast away from earth and delt with his grief on a new world of characters. The natives were not to happy with his arrival but soon respected his power. My 3.5yr old son and I watched this on our 52" with sound system full blast, and popcorn & pickle in hand. The extra features also include several other full length marvel cartoons that my son and I really enjoyed. I have always been a fan of comic book stories and super heros, If u like this sort of fantasy realm...this is definatly a must have. After experiencing this I went a head and ordered the Marvel Animation 6-cd set Amazon has been offering to save some cash on items I would have eventually purchased individualy
Animated Movies... hmmm
I'm a big comic book fan and every time the decision is made to adapt a character/storyline into the visual media, I'm always skeptical. Most movies animated movies if not all that have been released be it Marvel or DC have been lackluster in my opinion. But the fact that I love comics as much as I do, I end up falling into a sort of fanboy mentality and I go ahead and buy the movies anyway just because the idea of taking a great character and story and giving it motion is too big a chance to pass up. That being said, the Planet Hulk story arc (comics) to me was incredible. I thought it was an excellent read and the various artists that showed their talents on the pages were superb. The story itself actually spans 12 issues so there was a lot of story throughout. The problem with animated movies is that they aren't that long and I can understand that watching an animated movie for a prolonged period of time might get boring but Planet Hulk was not something that should have been condensed to 81 minutes. The art was pretty good and they stayed close to the original story for the most part (with the exception of the Beta Ray Bill character replacing the Silver Surfer in the comic) but I thought some of the dialogue was weak and there really wasn't enough time to develop the character relationships the way the comic did. If you're a Hulk fan and have never read the Planet Hulk story arc (that doesn't really seem to add up huh) buy the trade. Excellent read and you'll more than likely agree with me that more of the story should have been incorporated in the feature. I think a 3 star rating for the movie is right where it stands and if you do buy the Bluray there are plenty of extra features to keep you entertained after the movie's over. One thing I did read on someone else's review is to adapt the World War Hulk story arc into an animated movie and that idea does sound awesome but the time restrictions will always be a problem with animated movies.
this is a disgrace to the comic
i just watched this movie and the begining seemed right on track with the comic but after 15 min into the movie it completely jumped track after the first 15 min the movie hardly followed the storyline of the comic which was by far more awsome. everything that made the comic soooo incredibly good was thrown away in this story. the fight scenes were minisucle in the movie compared to the book.

ok major downers about this movie compared to book
in the movie the only big fight scenes are in the arena where as many also took place outside the arena in the book.
THE BIG FIGHT SCEN WITH SILVER SURFER isnt even in the movie instead they replaced him with someone idk someone who imitates thore but looks like a horse.
the ending sucks in the movie i guess cuase its pg, hulk doesnt marry the grl she doesnt become pregnant the world doesnt blow up
miek doesnt turn into the king no bug slaves get freed, there isnt a hive queen
hald the monsters that were in the book arnt even in the movie the only monster in the movie is one tentacle thing not several one robot king and then that thor guy, no lava monster no dino that hulk rides on, the fight scene at the training camp doesnt even take place in the movie

anyway long story short the movie blew get the book waaaaaaay better
Mediocrity as an art form
Greg Pak wrote what is arguably one of the best story-lines in the history of the Incredible Hulk. It's kind of like Conan meets John Carter from Mars, with the Hulk as the main character. It sounds like it wouldn't work, but it does. This animated movie managed to turn a fantastic storyline into a dumbed-down, choppy, poorly voice-acted version of a much better comic book. I honestly think the Ultimate Avengers movies were better. The best part of this was the cover artwork by Alex Ross. My suggestion? Watch it if it's on TV or something, but don't shell out the money. I regret paying for this DVD. I really, really do.
Cool
Great we that dont really read comics can see another side of Hulk in this movie. He is not the raging beast we regularly see

The best Hulk story I ever read
I've never liked the Hulk. I grew up with the mediocre TV show and dumb Hulk comics where the character came off as a lovable and destructive imbecile.
But this is a totally different Hulk. And a totally different Hulk story. Greg Pak took Hulk out of his element and sent him off planet. It's a totally different Hulk trapped in a world rich with violence, danger and a fascinating supporting cast.
The writing is smart with well-developed, exciting characters (including the Hulk) and beautiful art and color. This book is a great example of how good comics can be and the hardcover is full of extras including background on the planet and characters.
Hell Yeah!
This story was freakin great! This is the single best story for the Hulk I've ever read. The artwork was amazing as well. This story reignited my fervor for Hulk appreciation. Greg Pak took me back to the days of Peter David's era on hulk with amazing character development and depth. The idea of the Hulk being a gladiatorial barbarian just seems very natural and is extremely pleasant to see unfold. This is my favorite comic story ever, so I highly recommend this anyone who is a fan of the Hulk or just wants an interesting story to dive into.
Came in slightly beaten up...
...moreso than I expected, but came promptly. Speedy delivery and great price. I approve of this seller very much.
Good smashing fun
I'm not the biggest Hulk fan in the world, but this was an excellent story. Marvel's done the "send a strongman to another planet" thing before (with The Thing, in his own comic) but this is much better. The art is great, and the story, though derivative of many things (A Princess of Mars, Gladiator), has enough interesting twists to keep it interesting. Some of the pages seem choppy (was anything cut out from the original comics?) but that may be due to a limitation on pages and issues that the storyline could cover. And the world was created with a depth that you rarely see in comics--Sakaar has a detailed geography, cultures, mythos, and inhabitants. Everything works together wonderfully.

My only real complaint is that each fight or battle usually lasts all of one panel. It used to be that Hulk slugfests with, say, Rhino or the Abomination, would go on for pages as each behemoth pummeled the other in an epic brawl. Now it's one big action shot and on to the next adventure. I don't want a comic to be nothing but violence, but it's hard to think that any fight has any real importance if it ends in one page.

Still, overall, an awesome comics adventure.
A Great Representation of the Trade Paperback Format
For long-time comics readers, this is a great example of how the genre has evolved. Character and plot development are rich, dialogue and art are incomparably improved, and the creative teams manage to stay true to the original premise of the series. I don't read the Hulk regularly, but picked this and couldn't put it down. This is why people want TPBs to get more respect - they deserve it. Congratulations to Marvel and DC for continuing to raise the bar.

Not content to only smash the Earth to a pulp, the Incredible Hulk takes his rage to the distant stars in Planet Hulk, a rock-'em, sock-'em animated feature that pits Marvel's mighty green giant against a villainous interplanetary ruler in a story line drawn from one of the title's best latter-day comics. Dispatched into space by Iron Man, Doctor Strange, and the rest of the Illuminati, the Hulk (whose human alter ego, Bruce Banner, is nowhere to be found in this film) crashes on the planet Sakaar, where he's thrown into a gladiatorial arena to fight hordes of monsters for the pleasure of the planet's cruel leader, the Red King. Naturally, captivity does not sit well with the Hulk, who teams with other prisoners to battle the King's forces. Younger Hulk fans should be forewarned that the action here is frequently bloody, and the themes a bit more complex than Marvel's Saturday-morning fare, but fans of the original Planet Hulk comics will appreciate how closely the feature hews to the source material, with only a few variations; the plethora of Marvel persona on display, including a brief cameo by Thor, Beta Ray Bill (stepping in for the Silver Surfer), Adam Warlock, and Star-Lord, is also a plus.

And there's a wealth of extras to keep Hulk and Marvel fans happy, including two commentaries--one, a technical spec-heavy track with director Sam Liu (The Batman), character designer Philip Bourassa, and key background painter Steve Nicodemus, the other, a juicy, trivia-driven chat with writer Greg Johnson (Wolverine and the X-Men) and producer Joshua Fine--as well as "Let the Smashing Commence! The Saga of Planet Hulk," which features interviews with Greg Pak, who cocreated the Planet Hulk comic story line, and artist Aaron Lopresti. The latter is of particular interest to anyone curious as to what happened to the Hulk and Co. after this adventure. A 20-minute making-of featurette offers side-by-side comparisons of original comic panels and scenes from the film, as well as an alternate look at the opening sequence. The two-disc set (the second disc is a digital copy for PC or Mac) is rounded out by a snippet from the Thor: Tales of Asgard feature, a Hulk-centric episode of Wolverine and the X-Men, trailers for Hulk online games, and a pair of curious "music videos" featuring Spider-Woman and the X-Men. --Paul Gaita

Quintessential Hulk
Planet Hulk is a very good distillation of an excellent story arc published by Marvel Comics from April 2006 - June 2007 in Incredible Hulk vol. 3 #92-105 and Giant-Size Hulk vol. 2 #1.

The animation is as good an adaption as can be expected when trying to keep the story self-contained. Planet Hulk is a solid Hulk story with plenty of action and a touch of intrigue. I gave it 4/5 stars since quite a bit of defanging was done to the original story. That being said, the core remains true to the characters.

Watch this animation, if you like the Hulk you will not be disappointed. Afterwards, do yourself a favor and read one of the print versions of Planet Hulk.
Hulk SMASH!!!!!
Planet Hulk is when Hulk is sent to another planet by the Illuminati & Iron Man but where is Reed Richards a.k.a. Mr. Fantastic? Hulk has a rage that makes him destructive so with that the ship took a turn for another planet. On this planet Hulk is a slave with other super characters by a tyrant ruler for the purpose of fighting for their freedom. I like the fight scenes especially the fight scene that have Beta Ray Bill for Beta Ray Bill could have used the help of the Silver Surfer. Hulk is matured, intelligent, an hero in love and destructive in this movie with an happy ending. Hulk SMASH!!!!!
Dissapointing
If you have not read the comics first than this movie may be more to your liking. I read the comics before viewing the movie. I loved the story, and could not wait to see the movie based on it.

When I watched the movie, I was in awe on how it was nothing like the comic. Yes the basic plot line is the same, though they changed so much.

No Silver Surfer
No Maw training camps
No Brood
Miek does not transform

The list goes on for all the changes in the story.

I would only recommend this movie if you have not yet read the comic series.
Planet Hulk, certainly unique
Having never read the comic book, I have to say it helped to hear the audiocommentary and watch the special features. This is, however, a great story and I thought the way it was put together came across well on the screen. I didn't understand the Hulk from this movie, because in previous shows it was a screeming non-intellgent Hulk, whereas this one actually displayed non-angry personality. Overall, a great show and a good buy.
Thanks for reading.
Hulk OUT!
I really enjoyed this animated film. It is very well done and the production is Awesome. This team loves comics and respects their audience. Being an adventure cartoonist myself I was very happy to see some good story telling a nice film well made.
Bravo to the cartoonists involved. I can't wait to see what you guys come up with next.

How it all started
Many reviews have stated that this book is not necessary due to it being summarized in the beginning of Planet Hulk and some of the information in the Illuminati's other appearance. However, if you weren't following the Illuminati's activities or the Civil War material that included them, then it fills in that gap without having to jump to a non-Hulk title. Also, for those complete-ists out there that want the entire story from beginning to end, the only other way to get this story is in the individual monthly issues.

If you already know how Hulk got stuck in space, and you don't care about the specifics, then this volume isn't really for you. However, if you're a Hulk fan that wants the whole story from Hulk's perspective, it's definitely worth picking up.
A Hulk a fanboy would like
Story is over the top but entertaining at the same time. As with most comic book stories this one involves an "end of the world" theme, where the only one that can save the planet is the Hulk. The only piece of this that relates to Planet Hulk is the last couple pages where he's double crossed.

Overall an entertaining piece of work with average artwork.
Planet Hulk - :-) :-) :-) :-)
This book was one of the best "Hulk" stories I've read in years. Beyond great art and great dialogue, it shows a real range of thought and emotion from the hulk, much more than what's normally covered in the average comic, cartoon series, t.v. show or even feature film. It begs the question, have Hulk and Banner begun to reconcile their odd relationship?
I can't wait for World War Hulk!
short
the handbook was pointless

the story was short and bland.

i'd suggest skipping this and reading the much better planet hulk.

if you're going to buy this buy it used and pay what you really should.
Worth the used price, not cover price.
There are many reviews that suggest the story in this book is taken care of adequeately enough in the first page of the Planet Hulk book. I didn't listen and bought this one anyway. Those reviews were true, this book is unnecessary if you plan on buying planet hulk, unless you want the information provided at the very end which has nothing to do with the story, it just explains much about many characters involved with the entire Hulk legacy. There is very very little if anything at all about the decision the Illuminati made to send the green giant away, just the implementation of their decision. If you're looking for that (which i was) look for the Road to Civil War book. It's in the beginning of that. The artwork in this is very nice and it's well written, but the story is short and unneccessary.

I can get into these lifelike movies more, because you comprehend what to demand. They destitution to do this more, like a Actual vibrant X-Men film. If they had an without a scratch series in the 90's that was proper, there's no apologia they cant return a allowable big of it now. From what i've seen, they are a hardly more develop than what you'd wait for, and that's a dependable affair. Give me a enlivened X-Men talkie with blood, and some effortless swearing. Looks heartening. I stupefaction why they changed the method of getting Hulk into set out and send him to a planet where he can be alone (although he does make it c fulfil it to Sakaar through a wormhole). In my judgement, having Hulk procrastinate a giant r only to be betrayed when absolutely being a nobility guy was part of what intensified his disinclined, and I'll be wondering how it is they put him in those restraints in the first class. I carry, he has to burglarize out of them in the course of time Nautical starboard?
