Fans of Marvel's The Incredible Hulk comic books share an affinity for the big green guy - but what many of them might not know is that Dr. Bruce Banner's alter-ego was not always green! When the now-iconic character made his debut in The Incredible Hulk #1, published in May of 1962, the character was colored grey! The skin-color decision belonged to then editor-in-chief Stan Lee, who wanted to make the unlikely - and very angry - hero a color that was not associated with any particular ethnic group. However, due to inconsistent coloring techniques at the time, the grey coloring never really worked. Throughout the first issue, Hulk appears in various, inconsistent shades of grey. And so, for the sake of consistency, from issue #2 onward, the Hulk's skin became its trademark green!

The HULK Is Huge & Awesome!!!Everything the previous reviewer (GeeBee) stated and then some. This is an AWESOME Statue. You really need to see it in person in order to appreciate the size,quality and details of this statue. Simply put, its AWESOME. When I pulled it out of the box my wife asked me, where are you putting that BIG MONSTER? If you are a HULK fan you owe it to yourself to get this statue. You will not be disappointed. Absolutely Incredible!!!Words escape me on how amazing this piece is! I've been eyeballing this piece for a long time and I finally broke down and bought it and boy, am I glad I did! You will be overwhelmed at the quality of this piece, and besides that, it's enormous! The pictures you see online for this piece cannot do it justice. I know you've heard that before but it is the truth in this case!
First off the pictures do not even show the backdrop accurately. In real life the entire cover is represented including Ross, his daughter Betty, the soldiers, the missile heading upwards, the whole ball of wax!, it's all there! Just like the actual comic cover! In the pics this detail is missing. Also, the title at the top is not merely printed on, it's on a raised Plexiglas sheet that gives it an awesome 3D effect. Really, it's amazing! I was expecting a cardboard backdrop and was blown away when I saw it first hand. The quality is first rate!
Next up is the Hulk himself. When my 9 year old son (who is a Hulk fan like Dad) saw it, the first words out of his mouth were "HE'S HUGE!", and I concur. Not only is he big, but he is a sight to behold. They really captured the look of Hulk here. He's a mixture of old and new. He's grey (like old), He's very muscular (like new), and he has an almost "Frankenstein" like head structure that I think really conveys what Stan Lee had in mind for this character. It gets an A+ for character representation from me and I've been a fan since the beginning!
Then right in front of Hulk is his true self, Bruce Banner. What can I say other then he looks exactly like the comic cover and really aids in conveying how puny the human form is compared to The Incredible Hulk! He really aids in showing the scale in size between the two. He has that tortured look on his face that really conveys his torment at what has happened to him. Awesome!
All I can say is that if you have the means and are a true Hulk fan this piece belongs in your home. I can't say enough about the mind blowing quality of this piece. BUY IT!!
