What marvel legends or marvel universe figures are worth the most money?

Toochie Mama asks: My husband is a collector of marvel figures. I want to get him some for our anniversary, but I want the ones that are or will be worth a lot in the future.

answers: I used to collect figures pretty seriously, I can tell you that collecting in hopes that their will be value later on is futile. Toy collecting has changed over the last two decades and we can not expect figures we purchase now to turn into the priceless treasures toys did from when we or our parents were children.

Why? Because those toys were rare because hardly no one collected them- they were toys and not kept like collectors do today. Today collecting is different and if things are "rare" it is kind of a manufactured rarity because collectors have bought of dozen of something and hid it away hoping it will have value later. The problem is lots of other collectors did the same thing, so one day their will be lots of that particular toy and they wont actually be "rare". You will find even if a collector magazine says a toy is worth X, it does not mean you can find a buyer who will pay it.

My point is, don't worry about what will be worth more money.

Here is what you should consider when buying your husband some figures. The Marvel Legend figures are larger and have more detail and more joints so they can be posed in more positions. However the Marvel Legends line is also an older line that is disappearing and some characters may be harder to find except from pricier places like comic book stores or ebay. You may not want to pay the elevated "collector" price because it may not retain its value.

The Marvel universe line are smaller and have a surprising amount of detail for their size. They are also are a new line and many can be found at Target and Wallmart.

This is what I suggest. First find out what characters your husband likes, not all lines have every character. If there is a favorite character your husband is particularity interested in then get him the ones that look the best in whatever line they are available in.

If you think your husband would like to collect a lot of figures and you are just wanting to start him out, I suggest the Marvel Universe line because it is a new line, and you can still get much of the wave 1 stuff easily and look forward to new stuff they will make at least into 2010. Like I said the Marvel Legends line is ending and much harder to get now.
