This i09 function about the depressingly non-stop lameness of the 90s-era X-Men is wonderful and behind. But it goes off the rails here. In 1991, we knew Wolverine was a bad-ass because he wore Levi’s cut-offs. Convinced, he looks entirely cock-eyed to newfangled readers, but recognize Axl Rose was unironically wearing spandex bike shorts in the 90s.

Eli answers: Most of the X-Men titles are all occurring simultaneously, and for the most part each focuses on a small group of characters with occasional cameos from characters from other titles. Wolverine: First Class is, I believe, a flashback series which takes place in the late 100s of Uncanny X-Men (which were being put out in the early 80s).
Most books stand on their own, you don't really need to worry about what's happening in the others too much, or you'll pick it up as you go along.
House of M crossed over into Uncanny X-Men in issue #462-465. They are not necessary to read at all, really. House of M was it's own miniseries that stands on it's own, and the X-Men tie in issues only have stories about X-Men characters in the House of M world (which was an alternate universe which was temporarily set up) after House of M, that universe those issues took place in no longer exists, so the stories don't really matter.
