The Great Battle
This is one of those stories you can read for the pure enjoyment of reading. Secret Wars was the original 12 part mega epic comicbook tale. All of the major players from Marvel were involved from Spider-Man to Dr. Doom, from Wolverine to Galactus. All taken to a strange new world which the characters call Battleworld. The point of the story is for the Beyonder (an all powerful being) to find out which side is better good or evil. So he pits Earth's greatest heroes against the best villains. What ensues is an all-out Marvel Superhero millitary campaign. With fun developments along the way: Spider-Man's Black Costume, the introduction of a new Spider-Woman, The X-Man Colossus falling in love with one of the inhabitants of battle world. All had far reaching impact on future Marvel books.I thrilled when I finally collected all of the original issues of this series. A very fun read for any one looking to enjoy a great super heroe adventure. I don't know why the other reviewers...
STILL BEING DEBATED 20 YEARS LATER
Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars has spurred a lot of debate in the last twenty years. Many fans dismiss it as nothing more than a year long commercial for the Mattel action figure line. Others dismiss it as a blatant attempt to rush out and upstaged DC Comics Crisis on Infinite Earths far more historical series that came out at roughly the same time. Neither of these claims can be denied and even Marvel has admitted the transparent commercialism of the series. Still, when it comes right down to it, while perhaps nothing critical to the Marvel Universe came out of the series (Other than Venom) one certainly can't deny that it was an enjoyable series to read. It was a 12 page battle royal pitting most of Marvels top heroes against their top villains on neutral territory, all for the amusement of the God-like being known as The Beyonder. The Beyonder was an all-powerful being from beyond our universe. His origins would be explained in much more detail in Secret Wars II...
Lots of action and great fight scenes, but loses focus
A strange and seemingly omnipotent being has drawn together some of the greatest heroes and villains of the Marvel universe - the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, the X-Men, Spider-Man, and the Incredible Hulk on one hand, and Galactus, Dr. Octopus, Dr. Doom, Magneto, the Wrecking Crew, Ultron, the Absorber, and Molecule Man on the other. And now the being has made them a simple offer, "Slay your enemies and all you desire shall be yours!" But, this is more than a simple battle of Good vs. Evil. There are strange alliances to be made, and the allegiance of some of the participants is hardly clear. So, who will win in this battle royale, and what will he or she claim as their deepest desires?OK, yeah, as Tom DeFalco makes clear in the introduction to this graphic novel, this story arc was not created as a great story that needed to be told. Instead, what it was was an invention to sell a lot of action figures. But, that said, is this a good story or not? Overall, I...

Secret Wars 2 - Reliving 80s Comics Glory!
Fondly I remember the Marvel Secret Wars storylines during the mid-80s, when I was first getting into comics. Not having money, I'd get what was available at the library, so it was great to experience all major heroes & villains in a few short issues--a feat which otherwise would take years and many separate titles. The Secret Wars II sequel, nicely collected in this paperback, fanned out across many other titles, but the mainline 9-issue story is here. Those who didn't want the 2009 hardcover omnibus, (which includes all cross-overs), will find this edition to their liking. But note that, due to the cross-over nature that was the intent of SW2, some scenes in the mainline series seem "cut" and disjointed, but with a short caption explanation. The first Secret Wars was essentially an...
Great for fans and collectors only
This book collects every issue of the Secret Wars II saga, but ONLY those of the Secret Wars II title. Between each issue, readers will be told where in the Marvel Universe the story continues. Examples include New Mutants #30, Captain America #308, X-Men #196, and Iron Man #197. If Marvel had included these issues, I would have given it five stars. Those familiar with the Marvel Universe will have no problem making the leaps. Those new to Marvel or unfamiliar with this point in Marvel's history may find the jumps hard to make.

Much Better In A Collected Edition
SECRET WAR was a mediocre comic book. It's a great hardcover, though.Let me explain. SECRET WAR by Bendis and Dell'Otto was originally supposed to be a quarterly series. It ended up being effectively a biennial. With gaps that large, it was tough to follow the dark and somewhat complex story. Read in one sitting and with oversized pages to showcase Dell'Otto's painted art, however . . . It's a lot of fun.The story concerns super-spy Nick Fury discovering that a foreign power has been supplying supervillains with weapons in what amounts to state sponsored terrorism. Prevented from intervening by the government, Fury organizes a covert action which involves Wolverine, Captain America, Spider-Man and other top Marvel heroes taking the fight to the foreign capital. Flash-forward to a year later, when the heroes are attacked by powerful supervillains and one, Luke Cage, is seriously injured. The story of the fight for survival is intercut with flashbacks to...
Not quite as good as it's namesake
I'm not a great fan of Bendis, but I do think he's a good idea man. The premise behind this series is compelling, the execution could be better. But the good parts first:The artwork is perfectly suited to this story, gritty and blurry without being sloppy, it's an excellent moon setting. The moral ambiguity that the tale centers around was implict as soon as you open the trade and see the graphics. The storyline is a good look at some of the darker corners superhumans might find themselves in if they did exist, a nice realistic depiction over the idealized that overall comics are associated with. And this is an important trade that leads up to events going on now (Civil War). This use of superheroes starts the questions that really start getting asked in Civil War.But on the negative side, the story really seemed to drag to me, when I read it. The action is nearly nonexistant, and mostly in dimly remembered flashbacks. You don't really see the actual...
A Great Idea Scaled Down
Overall, good concept, amazing art and great writing. However, there are obviously some gaps. It looks like the artist and writers got tired part way through and rushed the the series. One of the bonus pages has Bendis giving a synopsis - the big battle was supposed to include the Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, the Defenders and more! Unfortunately, this was not the case as it got scaled down quite a bit. That's how the entire story feels, a great idea scaled down. They put all this work into designing new costumes for the heroes and we only get a few flashbacks.Too bad. If they ever came back and filled out the missing parts of the story this would easily be a 5 star book.

Beautiful edition makes this story come alive.
Quite frankly, this series was always something of a slog to get through. I went crazy and splurged for the Omnibus despite that, and I'm really pleased. With the new color process and oversized reproductions, artwork that was once over-dense now comes alive! There's just so much going on in this story--so many characters, so much plot, it always felt cramped. The average image of the Hulk, for example, was 2cm high. That didn't exactly let you feel the power of these gigantic super-battles. Combine that with the washed out and ridiculous dot-matrix coloring and that put the kibosh on most of the enjoyment to be had. With this edition, all that has changed. The oversize format lets the illustrations breathe. The intense, full color scheme brings everything to life. The story was always overblown and ridiculous, but with these beautiful illustrations given their due, it becomes an innocent pleasure to see: the Enchantress from Thor fight the...
Classic 80's marvel smart story by Shooter
This actually rises above just a toy cross in and Jim Shooter wrote a fairly decent story here. Looks great in omnibus format....really loving these omnibus collections. Want to see more, like Dr Strange Ditko, etc. Please pay special attention to the spines of these omnibus collections as some of them seem hastily and cheaply glued resulting in pages possibly falling out over time. Please construct these properly and lastingly, Marvel.
awesome series
I first read secret wars when i was about 12 or 13, I'm 37 now, and it's still a great read, and above all, it's fun. It's a real heavy book due to it's volume of pages. I took off the dustjacket, because i did not want it to get ruined. It still looks great as an all black book with the silver embossed title on the cover. i collect most of my comics this way now. either trade paperbacks or hardcover. If you like Secret Wars, then you may also like another one of my favorite comic books called Chill: Book One. It can be ordered by going to [...]

Marvel 'Secret Wars' Trademark Alludes To Video Games » MTV ...

Posted by admin May 21, 9375

Marvel Comics has tapped their ambrosial experience of mega-crossovers like ""The Infinity Gauntlet" and "Laic War" for video tournament lay in the dead and buried. Such stories present gifted excuses to possessions as many characters as thinkable into a publication, and the same bromide applies to Xbox and PlayStation titles. Now, a freshly filed trademark shows that the attendance at the very least wants to keep their gaming options open-minded for "Secret Wars," too, whether that means they have something indicated in weigh yet or not.

Computer line of work cartridges, computer nervy programs and computer job software are all covered explicitly in a filing prominent "December 23, 2010," which was spotted over at Siliconera . Unprejudiced to binding their bases, the publishing to the heart of Spider-Man and Captain America also included bicycle helmets, ardent films, DVD's and sunglasses. I haven't seen any bicycle helmets offered as pre-neatness bonuses recently, but I presumed the street has been paved for that if Marvel so desires at some spotlight in the tomorrow thanks to this verify.

Air Conflicts: Secret Wars

Posted by admin May 21, 2012COMMENTS

The few that I remember playing extensively include the 1994 PC release Star Wars: TIE FIGHTER , Star Fox , and Star Wars Rogue Squadron. Secret Wars takes place in the mid-20th century, spanning both of the World Wars, but the setting only tangentially matters. It’s a good thing that Air Conflicts: Secret Wars is an admitted arcade experience because referring to it as a flight simulator would either be willfully deceitful or hopelessly optimistic. But if we’re using a comparable scale, racing games for instance, ranging from Cruis’n USA (arcade) to Gran Turismo (simulator), Secret Wars would fall somewhere near Mario Kart. Mind you, I don’t play many flight simulators. But the timing...
