MAN-THING IS A HIT!!
This Man-Thing figure is top notch!! It is worth every penny you pay to get it. It's an unusual character from the 70s to make the Marvel Legends line-up, but is very much a welcomed one. As with all the figures in Series 8, the detail is incredible. Sticks, weeds, twigs, bumps, warts, growths, and other swamp/sewer matter. It's ALL there! Very cool. His articulation is just right, in my opinion, for the figure. Any more articulation would detract from the figure's appearance. His wrists and stomach joint tend to become very loose after play, but not so bad that it would warrant a bad rating. The figure comes with an Ultimate Marvel Team-Up comic book where he joins Spiderman to bring down the Lizard. The display base for this figure is nice and is one that you place on a flat surface. You can hang it on the wall, but it will not look nearly as good. The only bad thing about this figure is that it isn't stocked very well, so get yours before they sell out. It really is...
Sometimes they get it right...
And they (Toy Biz's sculptors) did with this toy. He looks perfect, perfect rendition of everyone's second favorite swamp monster.

excellent
The comic starts off slowly, repetitively, but soon flowers into an existential, anarchic,nihilist-naive, neo primitivist landscape, which prefigures and pre empts and "pre imagines" Charles Burns "Black Hole" and aspects of Alan Moore by decades. The action takes place in a swamp -- a secluded place, a dank,, threatening, yet pure place, untouched by the corruption of man -- yet it's a place constantly under threat from corrupt, violent men, pushing at its ( mental and physical/psychical ) edges and boundaries. However, the swamp is protected by the pure of heart, Man Thing -- the beast is a being who instinctively despises corruption, the concept of "might makes right" thuggery and the bully. In other words, a very modern comic figure !! The art is great too, with lots of good character profiles of 70's hippies, anarchist bikers, draft dodgers, homophobic hard hats, 1950's rockabilly gangs, hippy chicks and eccentric professors...
"Whatever knows fear burns at the Man-Thing's touch."
When my local comic book store got its copies of "Essential Man-Thing, Volume 1," one of the clerks made a point of urging me to buy the book because it included a couple of issues of what he maintained was the comic book with the greatest name in the history of the Marvel or any other universe. He was referring, of course, to the first two issues of "Giant-Size Man-Thing." I did not comment on either the appropriateness of this declaration being made in a loud voice in the presence of young children or the attendant irony of this information being gleefully communicated by someone who has six inches and about a hundred pounds on me. But I did let him know that I already had my own copy that I could read about the Man-Thing regardless of size in the privacy of my own home. Man-Thing made his (its?) first appearance in May 1971 in "Savage Tales" #1, and while there is a tendency to think of the Marvel character as a second rate version of DC's much more successful...
Top Dog of The Bog
The book is a good combination of drama, mysticism, ecology and action, because, unlike other swamp things, "Manny" doesn't spend entire stories feeling sorry for himself; if danger arises, he is there to face it and, if need be, enforce his own brand of mute justice. Great were the guest appearence of "Ka-Zar", the agents of "AIM" and "The Glob", but the introduction of "Howard, The Duck" was both hilarious and welcome, for that loquacious fowl really "went" with all the bizarre stuff around him!!! Is there a "Volume 2" coming?

"This is a dark corner of the world, boy."
Of all the Marvel Comics characters to get their own film adaptation, Man-Thing is probably the one I least expected, but then again, they did make that Howard the Duck movie...just a bit of history from my geek side before I review the film...some think Man-Thing was Marvel's answer to the popular Swamp Thing character, but Man-Thing actually appeared first in the pages of Astonishing Tales #12 (aka Savage Tales #1) in May of 1971 (Swamp Thing first appeared in the comic House of Secrets #92 sometime in June/July 1971). In terms of getting their own series, Swamp Thing came first beginning in 1972, while Man-Thing got his due sometime in 1974 (the Man-Thing series was short lived, lasting all of about 22 issues while the Swamp Thing series continues to thrive in one form or another). Directed by Brett Leonard (The Lawnmower Man), who is currently working on a new Highlander movie, the film stars the relatively unknown Matthew Le Nevez (Peaches), along with newcomer Rachel Taylor...
Mediocre Marvel movie, but that's why it went straight-2-DVD
Some reviewers out there will claim this movie is horrible. Um, what do you expect exactly from a movie called "Man-Thing"? I'm familiar with the comic and sure, they've changed things like they did for the Blade character in his movies. Honestly I don't know what else they could have done without making this a goofy teen comedy about someone's "man thing" (ok now that d*ck joke is out of my system!!) This is a B movie, pure and simple. Its a slasher/monster flick and when you view it as just that, not some "Citizen Kane" masterpiece, then you'll enjoy it. It has some good cheap scares and a monster tree (yes, I said *tree*) that goes around butchering people. Did I mention that there is a lot of gore and plenty of violent deaths to make a typical "Friday the 13th" fan happy? Graphic Tree tentacle/root impalings are the order of the day. The special effects are fine, the story does the job for this sort of movie, and its probably the bloodiest Marvel movie...
Not A Conventional Comic Flick
Okay, so it's more like three-and-a-half stars, but I was quite surprised at how good "Man-Thing" actually is. There aren't any major stars in this direct-to-DVD film, but it garnered enough attention to be produced by Avi Arad and executive produced by Stan Lee. That alone should show the viewer that this film is at least worthy of one viewing. Since I'm only remotely familiar with the "Man-Thing" comics, I have to go on what I've seen on the screen alone. Matthew Le Nevez plays the newly appointed sheriff of a swampy Florida county who is literally dropped into a peculiar case involving multiple missing persons and a little construction site sabotage. Ever since bigwig Schist has placed his oilrig in the middle of the sacred "darkwater," people have gone missing. When the new sheriff gets to the sleepy town of Bywater, the bodies start popping up in the swamp. Le Nevez has a few leads to go on, but nothing for sure. He is assisted by the local third grade...

Spiderman punching bag.
the bag was flimsy and did not hold up to my 5 & 6 yr old grandsons for one day.
garbage
Arrived with a hole, only thing my son consistently asked for for christmas. Since it was christmas eve I patched with some super glue. Obviously this made it impossible to keep inflated. A week in the inside bladder ripped, now water just sloshes around the whole bag. Don't waste your time this thing is complete garbage.
Very, very poor quality
My son received this from his grandmother for Christmas. It has two "chambers" .... a big one for air, and then a small one at the bottom for water that is used to weigh it down. After a day, the water chamber broke into the air chamber, and the thing wouldn't stand up any more. No tears, but it is in the garbage. Too bad, because he really liked it for the one day he had it.

The Progressive Ruin Questionnaire-Fest 2010 Part One: Only A Lad.

Posted by admin Feb 07, 2012

Well, depends on what you weigh “erotica.” I’ve encountered some people over the years who value anything in the waggish reserve form is licentious. I’ve recurrently mentioned that one lady who intelligence Steve Ditko’s Spider-Man comics were too graphically sensual. (I have no outlook what she was conclusion in there. I don’t yearning to comprehend.)

And then there’s humbug like the tube books and indies and Dizziness comics…there is bodily ease in some of those, and you identify that’s enough for some folks to disgrace those as “taboo” as well.

But I be versed what you betoken. You’re talkin’ the full-on sex books…the “outsert turgid Tab A in lissom Space B” nice of fetich. Not exceptionally a lot…I have Phil Foglio’s commentary than I do, and…well, not secure why I hew down out of it other than flawed to do something else, I postulate. I over part of the remonstrate with I don’t do it more than I do is because I don’t lean to watch them in a auspicious mode, not that being unpunctually to the feign has ever stopped me on this website before. And after this series of posts (occupying most of that archive sheet, inception at the very bottom) I don’t be familiar with I have a whole lot more to say about it aside from any off-the-wall events that may pop up (like that JSA matter).

Graphic novel by writer Steve Gerber and artist Kevin Nowlan. Initially started and announced in the 80s, it reportedly fell by the wayside while sitting on Nowlan’s drawing board. The original title was “Screenplay of the Living Dead Man”, intended to be a follow-up from the story “Song-Cry of the Living Dead Man” published in Man-Thing #12 way back when. It wasn’t until Gerber’s passing in 2008 that Nowlan refocused his energies and began working on the project again in his spare time. Back in March, Nowlan told me that it’ll end up being a 62-page painted story, and I even confirmed with Marvel that they’re going to publish it once Nowlan completes it.
