A fun trip down memory lane, but a little disappointment too
I collected these cards when I was a kid. I never bought or read comic books, but I enjoyed the movies and the cartoons and collecting the cards was fun. At some point in the history of my going to college and my mother moving all my old comic cards and basketball cards got lost/discarded. I saw some Marvel cards at Target and decided to see what I could find online of these cards. When I found this item on Amazon, between the reviews and the price (used to spend my entire allowance on a couple of packs a week, the price of $40 a box with free shipping seems insignificant now) I had to buy it.(1) The service from Georgetown Card Exchange was excellent. Shipped out right away, arrived in 3 days (turns out I'm in the "one day" zone from the store location via UPS) in perfect condition as described.I sat down and opened one pack at a time, about 6 packs an evening, putting the cards in order in plastic sleeves and then into a binder. I was very excited...

You have the potential of finding cards of SPIDERMAN, GHOST RIDER, CAPTAIN AMERICA, DAREDEVIL, PUNISHER, and many more top Marvel Heros. But Marvel Universe also has cards on famous Comic villains like CROSSBONES, MAD THINKER, and CARNAGE. There's Rookie cards of new comic characters: SLAPSTICK, STRONG GUY, and BISHOP. You could find TEAM-UP cards of SPIDERMAN AND GHOST RIDER or SPIDERMAN AND HUMAN TORCH, or many other famous team-ups. There are Cosmic Being cards, and Origins cards. Here you could find cards noting the origins of such famous characters as IRON MAN, GHOST RIDER, HULK, or SPIDERMAN, plus on the back of the card it shows a photo of the first comic that particular character was introduced in. Plus you have the possible finding of one of the highly sought after HOLOGRAM cards. If you want a trading card collection that is both entertaining and highly collectible, you're going to...

Only 45 cards out of the 90+ card set
I recently purchased a factory sealed box of the 2008 UpperDeck MarvelMasterpieces series 2. I am very disappointed at what was inside. Outof the 36 packs of 7 cards per pack, I had a total of 45 cards in theset, and after taking out 45 cards for my set and 45 cards for mymother's set (yes that's right my mother also loves marvel) I haveabout 144 duplicate cards; very, very disappointing. After pulling outthe 90 cards (45x2sets) I still had cards that were duplicated 3 and 4times over. I have been collecting marvel cards for the past 15 yearsand I have always been able to make at least one complete set of cardswhen I have purchased a factory sealed box.
Thank you
This was my first time ordering something from Amazon and i Have to say the delivery was right on and i had no problems. This is my second time ordering from here and I trust that i will have no complaints again.

MISLEADING REVIEWS
i think some of these reviews shouldnt be on this page. these reviews apply to the first edition that had serious flaws. this is the updated and expanded version that was released oct 2009. these reviews are from the book that was released in 2006. they actually have the same reviews listed under the older version that was flawed.when i brought this book, there were no reviews for it yet. i purchased this book the second day it was released in oct 2009. i think amazon does this book a disservice by applying the same reviews to this book. it misleads people into thinking it has major flaws. if you look at the titles it clearly says "updated and expanded version". maybe amazon used the review to imply it is a hot commodity(and it is), but by having the same outdated reviews for a book that was revised in 2009 seems a little self defeating and manipulative at the same time. being as though the reviews by some of the people are complaints about the older...
A Marvel fan's dream
NOTE: This review is for the NEW and UPDATED Marvel Encyclopedia. When I wrote this review, the new version's reviews were separate from the previous version. Since then, Amazon has combined the reviews, and this is a shame, because the updated version corrects most if not all of the problems found in the previous version. /END NOTEI received this book on it's release day, as I was very excited about it, and wanted it as quickly as possible. I was not disappointed! The book is 400 pages on high quality, glossy print, with brilliant artwork, and color that pops off the page. The book is meant as a reference, and includes basically every Marvel character ever created with a short bio for some, and up to 4 pages for the Marvel superstars like Spider-Man, Captain America, and Wolverine.I have the DC Encyclopedia as well, and it's great too, but the text is so small. The Marvel 2009 (Updated & Expanded) Encyclopedia improves this greatly with a font...
AWESOME!
I would love to be able to afford the A-Z series by MARVEL, but it's just waaaay too many volumes and waaaay too expensive. I've got my kids hooked on MARVEL and superheros in general. This book gives them just enough info about each character in the MARVEL universe to answer questions and gives a visual rendering of each so they can identify them... great purchase!

Marvel Comic Heroes box ?? - which is best value ? I am interested ...

Posted by admin May 21, 9340

All the Rittenhouse Marvel boxes are 1 falsify sketch per box. The just out Marvel Heroes and Villains specified at least 2 characters per sketch. For some artists this undeniably worked, but there's also a lot of 'two faces looking at each other'. It's a bit of a endanger with only 1 box. I as a person prospect X-Men Archives and Marvel 70th Anniversary had well-advised consistency of sketches. Measure cheaper are the Fanciful Four Archives and more overpriced is Women of Marvel and Superlative Avengers.

Viewfinder: Comic Cards, Etc.

Opened in June, 1993, this comic shop offers a variety of products ranging from comic books to figurines and role-playing cards as well as paint ball accessories. Perhaps the most interesting addition to Comic Cards, Etc is the paint ball selection. Situated in downtown Pinole on San Pablo Avenue is Comic Cards, Etc. "There was a time when comic book sales would cover all of the bills," owner Kelly Akagi said. Upon entering the store you notice right away the large collection of comics spanning the walls. The usual Marvel and DC selections are present, as well as a small collection of Japaneses manga kept behind the counter. Figures ranging from Star Wars to Transformers line the upper portions of the walls as well at the glass displays.
