Reviews
Awesome toy!!This is another awesome figure from Dc Universe classics line. Have a lot attention to details specially his weapon...making him a real King of Atlantis. Overall is a fun action figure to play with or just to display it in your bookshelf.
Aquaman Chews TridentThis is Aquaman from wave 7 of the DC Universe Classics line. He's wearing his blue "camouflage" suit that didn't catch on. Note, he is not a variant of Aquaman from wave 2 but part of another wave altogether.
The figure is solid and fun. Based on the standard DCU body he sports great articulation, ball joint neck, ball shoulders, pin elbows and his hands rotate, tilt and cut waist joints, the great hip joints that allow forward and back and side to side movement without making the sculpt look funny, pin knees and ankles. In summary, a great amount to get plenty of cool super hero poses without over doing it or hurting the look of the figure.
It is a typical super hero body and there is nothing about the sculpting above normal on this one. His face is recognizable as Aquaman with the sculpted blonde hair and something of a regal and tough expression.
They've done a clean job on the paint and there really are no flaws. This costume doesn't compare with the classic but it is interesting. Light and dark blues, black and white all mixed into a watery camouflage pattern. It's very clean and well done. No complaints on the face or hair either.
Last are accessories. He has his trident and it is very nice. Gold with blue highlights and lots of cool little detail it makes a great addition to make the figure more dynamic. It's not some chintzy little thing either it is thick and tall. He can hold in either hand or both. It's good for fighting Black Manta, another figure with a great trident.
He also has a piece of Atom Smasher the collect and connect (read: build a figure) for this line. He's a big dude, about 9" tall, and sports great sculpt, articulation and paint all his own. He's worth it if you're interested in buying the entire line at all. If not then you'll have an extra arm or leg or head just hanging around.
Overall, a really good looking and fun figure. Only if you don't like the outfit does it disappoint.
This figure is simply the best.....This particular Aquaman figure is special because it shows Aquaman in the suit he wore in a fabulous 4 Issue Limited Series from some time ago (80s I think). I loved the series and this figure is a great one for any fan of Aquaman or of special DC figures. I really like the suit and it makes sense he would where some camo in some of his adventures. I believe the late Neal Pozner wrote the series with Craig Hamilton providing the art. These two dudes did a great job with the series and it had more substance in it than just about anything that followed. Out of their great work, we have a truly awesome looking Aquaman figure that is still awesome without sporting the orange and green.

Aquman FigureThis is truly a beautiful figure of Aquaman wearing a lesser known costume. I'm happy that DC would make the effort to make such a figure. My only complaint would be that the head size is too small relative to the body size.
DC Universe Classics: Aquaman the Ocean WarriorBased upon Aquaman's much-maligned costume redesign for a DC Comics four issue mini-series from over twenty years ago, I must admit that Mattel knocked this figure out of the park. It is simply superb!! Since DC Comics eliminated this funky water camouflage uniform as soon as the mini-series was over (in other words, it bombed with fans), it is a real surprise that the "Ocean Warrior" motif would be resurrected this way for an action figure vs. using Aquaman's more recent barbarian appearance.
I certainly give DC and Mattel ample credit for diversifying its selection of possible costumes for such an iconic character like Aquaman. Frankly, I really like the multiple hues of blue interwoven in the costume's design, and the use of a "magical" trident as the included accessory. The figure's overall sculpting is terrific, especially his face which has all the necessary detail to make him appear as believable as possible. With some figures, the facial features seem like a mere afterthought, and thus the lack of attention can potentially ruin a terrific figure. In this instance, however, Mattel clearly made the effort, and their rendition of Aquaman here is definitely on a par with the usually more elite DC Direct brand.
As I've said in other reviews, I am certainly not an expert on articulation points, but, fortunately, the figure can stand easily enough without a support base and has at least a minimal number of poses. That's all I really need in terms of articulation as a collector.
For what it is worth, on a scale of 1-10, Aquaman as the "Ocean Warrior" rates an easy 10. Assuming you can find one, it is well worth a reasonable investment for collectors seeking action figures that meet the dual criteria of novelty and substantive quality.
